The Composting Network’s Residential Composting Program is now accepting applications for new customers!
Residential Composting customers are required to pay an initial processing fee of $35.00. For this fee, you will receive a 32-gal Compost Can. There is an additional monthly fee which will be as follows:
IMPORTANT: Participants are required to use our 32-gal Compost Cans. They are specifically designed to transport compost.
1 Compost Can – $35 per month for 1-day per week service
2 Compost Cans – $45 per month for 1-day per week service
3 Compost Cans – $65 per month for 1-day per week service
4 Compost Cans – $85 per month for 1-day per week service

Louisiana Department of Agriculture/State Rules and Regulations
- Cans must be placed curbside for pickup before the specified time (between 1AM and 6AM) on the day of your zone’s pickup.
- Renewals are done monthly. If you would like to change your service or terminate your contract, you must wait until the end of the month.
- Discontinuation of service will result in a “container pickup fee”. If the can is not returned, you will be charged a retroactive fee for said can.
- If you have missed your weekly pickup date and would like to have your can/s picked up that week, you may request a pickup for $10.
- Containers must be able to close completely. If your can is filled over the brim, you will be charged a “lid charge” of $10.
- Residents will be held accountable for the damage, theft, and replacement of cans. Cans are sponsored and must be maintained by said resident. Failure to comply to the rules and regulations will result in the removal of can/s from residence.
- Composting is green friendly! It diverts materials that can be turned into a natural resource from being disposed in landfills.
- It reduces greenhouse gas emissions and decreases erosion. Composting also increases the nutrients in soil and increases its recovery levels.
- Residents will be able to track (in real time) how much waste The Composting Network has collected from your residence per month.
- All participants will qualify for a Merchant I.D. which will enable you to purchase The Composting Network’s products at a discounted price (excludes compostable packaging*)
- After 3 months, all Residential Compost members qualify for three (3) free bags of soil or compost per month. For example, a member can request 2 bags of soil and one bag of compost; or 2 bags of compost and one bag of soil; or 3 bags of soil; or 3 bags of compost.
Rules for Special Events
- If you are hosting a special event at your residence (ex: spring cleaning, parties, etc.) and would like additional cans, please inform us of your requirement 2 days in advance.

1) How do I register for residential composting?
Interested parties will be able to apply for residential composting via The Composting Network’s website.
2) Who is eligible to receive a compost container?
Single dwelling and multi-family dwelling residences that do not surpass four units are eligible for collection if generate no more than 32 gallons of compostable material per week.
Properties like hotels, restaurants, businesses, schools/universities, or dwellings that contain more than four units must arrange for a private collection service online. APPLY HERE
3) How will I receive my compost container and when?
A can will be dropped off at your residence 7-10 business days after application.
4) What items can be composted?
Materials to Avoid:
Coal Ash – Most ashes are safe to mix into a compost pile, but coal ashes are not. They contain sulfur and iron in amounts high enough to damage plants.
Colored Paper – Some paper with colored inks (including newsprint) contain heavy metals or other toxic materials and should not be added to the compost pile.
For years, the vehicle was petroleum-based, but the industry is slowly switching over to soy- or vegetable-based inks. Pigments themselves still contain heavy metals such as zinc and copper, although overall amounts of heavy metals have been reduced.
Diseased Plants – It takes an efficient composting system and ideal conditions (extreme heat) to destroy many plant diseases. If the disease organisms are not destroyed they can be spread later when the compost is applied.
Inorganic Materials – This stuff won’t break down and includes aluminum foil, glass, plastics and metals. Pressure-treated lumber should also be avoided because it’s treated with chemicals that could be toxic in compost.
Meat, Bones, Fish, Fats, Dairy – These products can “overheat” your compost pile (not to mention make it stinky and attract animals). They are best avoided.
Pet Droppings – Dog or cat droppings contain several disease organisms and can make compost toxic to handle.
Synthetic Chemicals – Certain lawn and garden chemicals (herbicides – pesticides) can withstand the composting process and remain intact in the finished compost. Poisons have no place in the natural micro-community of your compost pile.
5) When will my container be picked up?
Composting containers will be picked up on their designated zone day. You will be notified of your specified pick up day upon signing up for service. Cans must be curbside the night before said pickup day.
6) Additional Policies and Procedures
- Residential Composting Customers are required to keep abreast of updated policies and procedures. You can do so by visiting this section of our website often as all updates will be posted here.
- It is your responsibility to keep your compost can moderately clean.
- Upon pickup, compost cans must not be overfilled. The top must be able to close for transport.
- Residential Composting Customers must utilize green compost bags to keep compost can moderately clean. If green compost bags are unavailable, you can utilize either brown bags or plastic bags until green compost bags are delivered.
- If your compost can is not kept moderately clean and/or is overfilled, your composting service is subject to termination after three (3) violations.
- Lapse Days – After one year of service, Residential Composting Customers are afforded three (3) lapse days in which you may call to request a pickup for your can if you forget to put it out for pickup on your designated pickup day. Upon your call, the compost can will be picked up the following day.
